Point Wilson Lighthouse 1879 |
|
Located 2 miles NW of Port Townsend, Point Wilson Lighthouse began operation on December 15, 1879. The fourth-order Fresnel lens with a fixed-white light shone from the square tower above the 1 1/2 story wooden dwelling. In 1894 a revolving lens with a red screen in terrupted the fixed-white light with flashes of red. The present lighthouse (above) was built in 1914 with a 46 foot octagonal-shaped tower above the fog signal building and the old tower was removed from the remodeled dwelling (above left). Automated in 1976, the restored barracks and officers' quarters of nearby Fort Worden are available for rent.
