Grays Harbor Lighthouse 1898
|
|
Standing at 107 feet, Grays Harbor Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Washington. Marking the harbor's entrance since 1898, the octagonal tower houses a third-order Fresnel lens, now protected by curtains from the sun. Lens and lighthouse now stand nearly 1/2 mile inland from the ocean's edge.....the automated lens still flashes red and white. The automated fog signal is on the harbor's south jetty, a mile away. The Westport Maritime Museum, housed in a 1939 Coast Guard Lifeboat Station, displays photos and exhibits from the Grays Harbor and Willapa Bay Lighthouses as well as the Destruction Island first-order lens....definitely worth a visit!!
